York Catholic Runners Go 2 for 2 at Districts

The District 3 cross country championships are held at Big Spring High School each year. This Cumberland County course features a long ascent at the 3.1 mile course’s start that usually establishes early who the strongest runners are. Runners who tackle the demanding course’s steep first mile are rewarded with a cushion they can ride to a long downhill sprint to the finish. In the 1A championships the Fighting Irish of York Catholic captured the team titles in both the girls’ and the boys’ races. That is a rare feat to capture both races, and it speaks to the hard work York Catholic’s runners put in to a season that was in doubt this summer with Covid restrictions.
Both teams placed four runners in the top 15. For the girls’, Magdalene Motter, Madelyn McKee, Aylssa Miller and Gabbie Tully led the way and for the boys’ Moseley Driscoll, Jon Stromberg, Joseph Rizzuto and Jon Marinelli set the pace.
