In the blustery chill of mid-November last season, Trinity’s District 3 football title hopes were gone with the wind when their junior quarterback and leader Mason Boyer shattered his collarbone as he was sacked at the beginning of the fourth quarter in the District final game against Bermudian Springs.
This season’s expectations are lofty again for the ’Rocks as they return Boyer along with a contingent of skilled playmakers. But like last year, the ’Rocks opened the 2025 season with a stinging defeat to the Vikings of Allentown Central after Boyer (208 passing yards) was picked-off late, giving the District 11 powerhouse program a 19-16 victory and a celebratory bus ride back up Interstate 78 to the Lehigh Valley.
Allentown Central Catholic has been playing football amongst the stiff competition of northeastern Pennsylvania since well before World War II. Their first undefeated season came in 1942, and they have had three since, including 2010 when they beat Bishop McDevitt 28-27 in the state final in Hershey to cap off their last state championship and perfect season. The Vikings are 13-time District 11 champs – a run that began in 1991.
So when the leaves have fallen and swirl all about come November, it’s a pretty safe bet that the Vikings will be playing championship football, as will Trinity.
