The Trinity girls successfully defended their crown and the York Catholic boys won on the first hole of a playoff to snag their first title since 2014 – giving the two Diocesan teams their respective District 3 Class 2A golf team championship titles last week at Honey Run Golf Club in York.
With a team score of 268 strokes for the gold medal, Trinity’s Veronica Maddux, Claire Grindle, Addyson Hoover and Ella Brechbiel will return to the PIAA team championships on October 22 at Penn State’s White Course. Last year, in only their second season, the ‘Rocks finished sixth in the state.
Shooting 169 over the course of the two-day district tournament, Trinity’s Maddux clinched third place and qualified for the girls’ individual state championships, also slated for Penn State.
In boys’ competition, York Catholic’s Fighting Irish contested Annville-Cleona for the title after both teams finished their rounds with a score of 318. In an aggregate-score playoff, the Irish took the team title, 17-20, and secured a spot in the state finals on October 22 for the team of Kyle Salko, Sam McKim, Brycen Hissong, Tate Keffer and Evan Bichof.
York Catholic’s Salko and McKim will also test their mettle in the boys’ individual tournament in Happy Valley.
