The Sound of Music Comes Alive at Trinity

Auditions and planning for Trinity High School’s musical The Sound of Music began in September 2021 and the cast, crew and musicians, totaling more than 60, are performing their beautifully created rendition on March 4-6 at the school. The lead of Maria Rainer is being played by Grace Verano, and the male lead is Silas Gross as Captain Georg von Trapp.

The musical is set in the majesty of the Austrian Alps just prior to the outbreak of World War II. It follows the life of Maria, who is discerning a religious vocation but is sent away to be a governess to a wealthy Navy officer and widower, Captain von Trapp, and his seven children.

The show is based on the 1949 memoir of Maria von Trapp and the production first was performed on Broadway in 1959 and in London in 1961. It was a major motion picture in 1965, winning five Academy Awards.

In addition to the student cast, six Trinity alumni also joined the cast as nuns to help with the production. Several young performers also added to the musically rich production by playing the von Trapp children.
