The Seven Sorrows Varsity Girls basketball team celebrates their championship in the Pennsylvania State CYO Tournament after stellar performances last weekend.The Seven Sorrows Varsity Girls basketball team in Middletown delivered a championship performance this past weekend, winning the Pennsylvania State CYO Tournament through relentless defense, unselfish team play and clutch execution in the biggest moments. Across three hard‑fought games, Seven Sorrows showcased the toughness and composure that defined their season, ultimately bringing home the state title in storybook fashion.
Seven Sorrows opened the tournament with a strong defensive showing, setting the tone for the weekend. Behind disciplined team defense and efficient scoring, they secured a 38–28 victory over St. Ignatius Loyola from the Diocese of Allentown. Ella Zakovitch led the way with 18 points.
In a tightly contested semifinal, Seven Sorrows battled their way to a 36–33 win over Saints Peter & Paul from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Balanced scoring and crucial defensive stops down the stretch proved vital. Zakovitch again led the way with 14 points.
The championship game delivered a dramatic finish worthy of the state title. Seven Sorrows trailed St. Alphonsus from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for most of the contest but fought back, tying the game with just 6.5 seconds remaining. Inbounding under their own basket and needing to go the full length of the court, they executed perfectly when it mattered most.
The ball was inbounded to Reagan Fedash, who raced the length of the floor untouched before threading a pass to Mya Williams, who finished a layup as time expired to win the state championship. 34-32. Zakovitch led with 13 points and Williams netted 10.
From defensive intensity to clutch performances, Seven Sorrows demonstrated what can be achieved through teamwork, resilience, and heart. Their unforgettable buzzer‑beater championship win will be celebrated for years to come — the perfect ending to an already fantastic season.
