Directors and coordinators of parish religious education programs gathered at the Diocesan Center in Harrisburg on August 25 for a daylong convocation that included sessions on leadership, effective catechesis, panel discussions and prayer.
This year, approximately 1,300 catechists are teaching some 10,000 students in religious education programs in the Diocese.
Various presentations throughout the day encouraged discussion and the sharing of ideas among the educators. Session topics included the Eucharist and family, Joseph as a guide for catechetical leadership, catechizing children with learning challenges, promotion pro-life values in the religious education classroom, catechetical certification, helping children to pray, and salvation history.
The day featured the celebration of Mass and closed with a Eucharistic Holy Hour.
The annual convocation is presented by the Diocesan Office for Evangelization and Catechesis.
