Sister Mary Michelle Shuda, 83, a member of the Felician Sisters for 65 years, died on Friday, March 10 at St. Anne Nursing Home in Greensburg, Pa., after an extended illness.
Sister Michelle was born in Mount Carmel, and was the daughter of the late Martha (Nalis) and Joseph Shuda.
Sister Michelle’s ministry to the Church and the Felician Congregation was primarily in education, where she served as a primary teacher for more than 40 years in Felician Schools in the following dioceses: Pittsburgh, Greensburg, Harrisburg and Cleveland.
In 2004, Sister Michelle retired from teaching and served the next 20 years as receptionist and sacristan at St. Anne Nursing Home in Greensburg. The last year and a half of her life, Sister Michelle rendered compassionate care to her brother, Father Paul Shuda of the Harrisburg Diocese.
Shortly after Sister Michelle was diagnosed with cancer in January of 2023, she returned as a resident of St. Anne Nursing Home and there lived out her final days.
Sister Mary Michelle was preceded in death by her parents, Martha and Joseph Shuda and by her brother, Msgr. Robert Shuda. She is survived by her brother, Father Paul R. Shuda of Harrisburg, cousins, and a family of more than 400 sisters in North America.
Family and friends will be received at the Sanvito Funeral Home in Coraopolis, Pa., on Friday, March 17, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., with a Sharing of Memories at 7 p.m. After the sharing, the body will be privately transferred to the Felician Sisters Chapel in Coraopolis. There will be additional viewing on Saturday morning, March 18, in the chapel from 9:30 a.m., until the time of the funeral. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 18, at 10:30 a.m., with burial to follow in the Felician Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Felician Sisters Retirement Fund or a charity of the donor’s choice.
