Obituary: Sister Jacqueline Ziobro, SS.C.M.

Sister Jacqueline Ziobro, SS.C.M.Sister M. Jacqueline Ziobro, SS.C.M., died at Emmanuel Hospice in Danville on Holy Saturday, March 30. She was born Dolores Rose Ziobro in Dupont, Pa., on November 24, 1930, to Mary Stupak and Edward Ziobro and attended St. John the Baptist School in Pittston, Pa., where the Sisters of Saints Cyril and Methodius taught.

After graduating from Pittston High School in June 1948, she entered the Sisters of Saints Cyril and Methodius on September 8, and was professed on August 9, 1951.

Sister Jacqueline served in the ministry of education. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Education from Marywood University in Scranton. Sister taught kindergarten through eighth grade, and also served as a math and reading tutor and librarian.

Her teaching took her to Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Indiana, Pennsylvania and South Carolina. Her greatest joy was preparing students for the reception of the Sacraments of Penance, Holy Eucharist and Confirmation. As part of her ministry, Sister Jacqueline also guided the altar servers, lectors and school patrols.

When Sister Jacqueline retired from her very active ministry, she was engaged in the Ministry of Prayer and Hospitality at Maria Hall in Danville, and at Emmanuel Center in Danville, and continued to make yarn dolls to be sent to children on St. Helena Island, S.C. She loved to tell stories of years in ministry, especially about serving in Chicago and Bluffton, S.C.

Sister Jacqueline is survived by her sister Gloria, and by nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, and by her siblings Mary and Edward.

Funeral Services and a Mass of Christian Burial were held on Thursday, April 4, at Maria Hall in Danville, followed by burial in the Sisters’ cemetery.
