
Joseph A. Malesic, 104, born in Steelton, died on Friday, June 3, 2022 in the Middletown Home. He is survived by his two sons, Robert J. Malesic and wife Constance, of Hummelstown and Most Rev. Edward C. Malesic, Bishop of the Diocese of Cleveland; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth Schatt Malesic; his son, Joseph Malesic, Jr.; daughter, Margaret Malesic; and four brothers, Tony, Bill, Rudy and Frank Malesic.
Joseph was retired from the Defense Depot, New Cumberland, where he was the Director of Management Information Systems. He was a Veteran of WWII and served as a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. He had been a parishioner of the former St. John the Evangelist Parish in Enhaut and was a current member of Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Middletown. He was a member of American Legion Post 594, Middletown, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, American Association of Retired Persons and St. Aloysius Society 42 KSKJ.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated on Friday, June 10 at 11 a.m. at Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, with his son, Bishop Edward C. Malesic, as principal celebrant and Bishop Ronald Gainer as concelebrant. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Thursday, June 9 from 6-8 p.m. at Wiedeman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 357 South Harrisburg Street, Oberlin. Prayers for the deceased will begin at 8 p.m. on Thursday. A viewing will also be held on Friday from 10-11 a.m. at Seven Sorrows. Contributions in his memory may be made to the memorial fund of Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, 280 N. Race Street, Middletown, PA 17057.
