Obituary: Father Andrew Marinak

Father Andrew MarinakFather Andrew P. Marinak, 92, of Charleston, S.C., and formerly of Little River, S.C., and Steelton, died September 19, 2021, in Carter Assisted Living in Charleston.

Father Marinak was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Harrisburg on May 26, 1956, after graduating from Pontifical College Josephinum in Worthington, OH.

He served as parochial vicar at St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Hanover from 1956-58 and St. Joan of Arc Parish in Hershey from 1958-62; as Chaplain at the U.S. Penitentiary in Lewisburg from 1962-69; and as administrator of St. Joseph Parish in Milton from 1968-69.

He was named pastor at Holy Cross Parish in Mount Carmel from 1969-70; Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Middletown from 1970-77; Corpus Christi Parish in Chambersburg from 1977-85; St. James Parish in Steelton from 1985-95; and Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Cornwall from 1995 until his retirement in 2003.

Father Marinak was the son of the late Andrew P. Marinak and Josephine Gustin Marinak. He is survived by two brothers, Charles A. Marinak of Edgewater, FL and Robert J. Marinak and wife, Rose of Ocala, FL; two sisters. Mary Ann Muretic of Oberlin and Josephine A. Malovic of Fairfax Station, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and James Marinak and two sisters, Frances Donato and Rita Salembeni.

Mass of Christian Burial was concelebrated September 29 at Prince of Peace-Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church with Bishop Ronald Gainer as the principal celebrant and Father Robert A. Yohe as homilist. Burial was in the Priests’ Circle of Holy Cross Cemetery in Harrisburg.
