On a cold winter’s night a week before Christmas, thousands of faithful came to Good Shepherd Parish in Camp Hill to ponder and gaze upon a Living Nativity display.
With roles played in large part by youth of the parish, and featuring live animals used in productions at the Sight and Sound Theater, the drive-through event brought to life five scenes leading to the first Christmas.
Thousands of onlookers wound their way through the parish parking lot in their vehicles and stopped at the scenes: The Annunciation, The Visitation, Joseph’s Dream, The Journey to Bethlehem and the Birth of the Lord. The parish further enhanced the prayerful presentation with a hand-out featuring Scripture passages of each scene, and with a radio frequency playing the song “Emmanuel: God is with Us!”
“We wanted to have something that would be simple and safe in this time of Covid, yet exciting for the entire community,” said Father Neil Sullivan, pastor.
The Living Nativity presentation was the first for the parish, and an immediate success, as a steady stream of vehicles inched through the display throughout its two-hour timeframe.
