On a cool, damp Saturday, November 22, hundreds of faithful gathered at St. Joseph Church in Hanover to begin the morning with Holy Mass. Soon after, they met outside to begin a solemn Eucharistic procession that weaved its way down Westminster Avenue in Hanover on the start of a six-mile journey in celebration of the Jubilee Year. The journey made stops for prayer and reflection at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Hanover, Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in McSherrystown and then onto the final leg of the journey, 2.5 miles to the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Conewago for Benediction. Pastors of the parishes – Father Michael Rothan, Father Michael Reid, Father Richard Lyons and Father Dwight Schlaline – led the procession, midday prayers and periods of Eucharistic Adoration.
Along the route, prayers were sung in English and Spanish for the following line of faithful that stretched for nearly a quarter mile along heavily trafficked public thruways through Hanover and McSherrystown before concluding at the Basilica.
