Coming off a third-place finish in the PIAA State Wrestling Championships two weeks prior, Bishop McDevitt continued to demonstrate their prowess as wrestling transitioned from team to individual competition at the District 3 Class 2A Championships February 22.
The Crusaders swung their momentum into the day-long tournament at Central Dauphin East High School, capturing titles in six of the 13 weight classes. Along the way, three Crusaders earned their first-ever District gold medals: Braiden Lotier at 107, Greyson Music at 127 and Nicky Negron at 160. They joined repeat champs Camden Baum at 139, Ryan Lawler (who notched his 150th win in the tournament) at 152 and Lucas Lawler at 215.
Trinity’s Will Detar won his second straight district title at 121; a state silver medalist last year, the junior has already committed to Northwestern.
In the final match of the night, Delone’s Caleb Tyler – who last year joined teammate Gavin Green in winning district gold for the Squires for the first time in 14 years – secured his second district gold medal at 285.
These eight gold medalists are among 18 total wrestlers from Diocesan high schools who will compete at the Southeast Regional this coming weekend to earn a spot in the coveted state finals at the Giant Center in Hershey, March 6-8. They also include Camron Smith, Jordan Manyette and Noah Aubert of Trinity; Aiken Smith, Liam Lawler, Zane Crouse, Easton Comp and Ryan Lengal of McDevitt; Zachary Dresch of Lancaster Catholic and Gavin Green of Delone.
