Student-athletes from four Diocesan high schools took gold and silver medals at the District 3 Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg University on May 21 and 22, giving solid performances at Seth Grove Stadium
In 3A girls’ competition, Bishop McDevitt’s 4×100 meter relay team of Maddy Brooks, Lindsay Husic, Vanessa Damone and Jazmine Bennett took gold with their 48.49-second performance. Bennett also earned silver in the 100 meter dash, and fellow Crusader Taylor Foster gave a silver-medal performance in the long jump.
In 2A girls’ events, Trinity freshman Adeline Woodward soared to a gold medal in the pole vault, and Anne Spila placed second in the high jump. On the track, Shamrock teammates Ella Cloak, Frances Murray, Elizabeth Levin and Caroline Cunningham sprinted to silver in the 4×400 meter relay.
The boys’ 2A athletes also made a strong showing at districts, with Delone’s Ryan Murphy winning gold and silver in the 300 meter hurdles and 100 meter dash, respectively. Lancaster Catholic’s Daniel Myers took gold in the 3200 meter race, and teammate Mason Moore received silver in the 800 meter run. In the 110 meter hurdles, Trinity’s Danny Britten captured silver.
Track and field competition continues to heat up, with the PIAA state championships at Shippensburg University on Memorial Day Weekend.
