St. Joan of Arc Parish in Hershey will hold a quarterly Mass for persons with sensory sensitivity or other disabilities. Dimmer lighting, no music, a shorter homily and other adaptations are included to promote a fully inclusive environment. Every effort will be made to accommodate all in attendance, and all behaviors are welcome. An ecumenical, inter-religious candlelight remembrance service for anyone who has experienced the death of a loved one, family member, or friend to suicide will be held on Sunday, December 10, at 6:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Basilica, Conewago. Seeking volunteers for Mission trip to México. “Keeping Christ in Christmas,” an event featuring a dramatization of Las Posadas, will take place at St. Joseph Parish in Hanover, December 21 from 6-8 p.m. Las Posadas consists of songs and prayers which form the Novena leading up to Christmas. In this bilingual celebration, Father Michael Rothan and students from St. Joseph School will perform a dramatization of Las Posadas, followed by Advent and Christmas music in English. The Knights of Columbus Spanish Council will provide traditional Advent food.
A presentation on Our Lady of Guadalupe, “The Eagle Woman, The New Eve,” will be presented by Maria Mullen, Saturday, December 9 at St. Joseph Church in York. St. Jimmy’s Jamboree Playgroup at St. James Parish in Lititz will meet on alternating Thursdays and Fridays this school year from 9:30-11:30 a.m. The group will also be offering Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) for children ages 3-6 during St. Jimmy’s Jamboree when it falls on a Thursday. The Mental Health Ministry at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Mechanicsburg is offering two types of spiritual support groups: a group for individuals who are experiencing mental illness, and a group for family members and friends of those experiencing mental illness. Meetings are now being held on the second and fourth Wednesday evenings of each month. We will gather in the Bayley Conference Room for open discussion, and then move to separate locations for the Spiritual Support Group meetings. The Central PA Post of the Catholic War Veteran Post 707 meets once a month (with remote/Zoom options for each meeting) on the Second Tuesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. at 112 State Street, Harrisburg, next to St. Lawrence Church. Dues are $35 per year. The group is looking for new members. The Catholic War Veterans were created by Father Edward Higgins of Astoria, New York, and blessed by Pope Pius the XI. It is a national Congressionally Chartered organization with state and local chapters. Any baptized Catholic who has served in uniform is qualified. A member does not have to have served in a war. The Joshua Group on Market Street in Allison Hill is seeking donations of shoes for school students. The organization provides free of charge resources which include tutoring, mentoring, meals and much more to over 100 students attending Harrisburg Catholic Elementary School and Bishop McDevitt High School. For families that have difficulty meeting the uniform guidelines of the Catholic schools, the Joshua Group often needs to provide shoes for students. Currently there is a need for gym sneakers in sizes 3y-7y and also black/brown dress shoes in all youth sizes. All donations can be dropped off at the St. Francis Parish office at 1439 Market Street in Harrisburg.
Restoration of the OLBS Tabernacle as Memorial to Father Paul Shuda – The tabernacle on the altar at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament and Vietnamese Martyrs Parish in Harrisburg is in dire need of restoration. An estimate of $6,800 from a professional cleaning and resealing company to restore the tabernacle, two brass flower vases and two brass candle holders has been received. Our Lady’s Knights of Columbus Council 15137 is leading the effort to acquire the funds for the restoration by reaching out to anyone who knew and appreciated Father Paul Shuda. The intent is to complete the restoration of the tabernacle in memory of Father Shuda since he truly loved the parish and sanctuary. The Council will kick off the donations by providing $1,000 toward the $6,800 goal. The Knights of Columbus and The Christopher Club of Mount Carmel will host the annual Blessing of the Manager on Saturday, December 9 at 7:15 p.m. This is a community event with local Catholic priests and pastors of the Mount Carmel Ministerium participating. Fellowship and caroling with complimentary holiday food, snacks and cookies will be provided. Stop by and see the spectacular decorations designed and created by Sir Knight Michael White and get into the holiday spirit while keeping Christ in Christmas.
St. Ann Byzantine Catholic Church in Harrisburg will be selling homemade nut rolls, perohi and smoked kielbasa in the parish hall on Saturday, December 9 from 9 a.m. to noon. The homemade nut, apricot and poppy seed rolls will be sold for $12. The perohi are sold frozen by the dozen. Flavors are, potato & cheese, cabbage, sauerkraut and prune. Farmer cheese perohi are 10 per bag. The perohi are $7 per bag and the kielbasa is $8. Cash, personal checks with ID and most credit cards are welcome. No orders will be taken; sale is on a first come, first served basis.
Knights of Columbus Council #3625 of Prince of Peace Parish in Steelton are sponsoring an All You Can Eat Breakfast on Sunday, December 10, from 9 a.m.-noon. The menu consists of eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage, muffins, coffee and juice for $10. Children 6-12 are $7 and children 5 and under are free. The breakfast is being held in our Parish Center. The Bishop McDevitt Swimming and Diving Team is holding an All You Can Eat Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, November 25, in the Bishop McDevitt High School cafeteria. Cost is $10 for ages 12 and older, $5 for ages 6-11, and free for ages five and under. The breakfast runs from 8-11 a.m. All proceeds benefit the Swimming and Diving Team directly. St. Peter Parish in Columbia will host its annual Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, December 2, following the 4:30 p.m. Mass, and Sunday, December 3, after the 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Masses. The bazaar will feature our money raffle, basket raffle, craft items, baked goods and the “White Reindeer” table, back by popular demand. On Sunday, a full course dinner of baked penne and meatballs will be served from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. The donation for the dinner is $10/adults and $5 for children under 12. The Auscultation Brass Band will perform a Christmas Concert at St. John Neumann Church in Lancaster on Tuesday evening, December 12 at 7 p.m., to benefit the Knights of Columbus via a free will offering. The Auscultation Band was formed in Lancaster in 1985 and consists of a variety of physicians from numerous specialties who have kept the playing of music as a large part of their lives. The all-physician band practices weekly and performs numerous concerts, charity benefits, retirement communities, local churches, and medical events. Their repertoire of music includes classical, jazz, and popular brass ensemble.

Lancaster Court Queen of Peace #1023 of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas invites youth in grades 4-12 from all schools – public, private, parochial, home, and cyber – to enter the 2023 National Education Contest. Categories and divisions are: Division 1 for grades 4-5 in essay, poetry, art and computer art; Division 2 for grades 6-8 in essay, poetry, art, computer art, music and photography; and Division 3 for grades 9-12 in essay, poetry, art, computer art, music and photography. Students may submit entries in each category for their respective division. They must submit an entry form with each entry.
