Masses & Prayer Services

The Sisters of Saints Cyril and Methodius will have a special Memorial Mass for the SSCM Sisters who died during the pandemic. The Mass will be celebrated July 10 at 2 p.m. in the Basilica of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Danville by Bishop William Waltersheid, Auxiliary Bishop of Pittsburgh. All family and friends of the Sisters are invited to attend the Mass; light refreshments will follow. If you plan to attend in person, please call 570-275-3581, ext. 101. A 30th anniversary Mass for Sister Mary Catherine Rose Giacobbe, the first hermit Sister in the Diocese, will be celebrated Aug. 14 at 9 a.m. at St. Lawrence Chapel in Harrisburg. Bishop Ronald Gainer will be celebrant for the Pontifical High Mass, and Sister will renew her vows. All are welcome to attend the Mass, and to send prayer requests to Sister at www.flowerofcarmelhermitage.org.

Education & Enrichment

The Diocese’s “Truth, Beauty and Goodness” evangelization series continues June 28 with a presentation on the dignity of the human person and the complementarity of men and women. Dr. John Rossi, a conference speaker and member of St. Theresa Parish in New Cumberland, will be the presenter for the event, offered via Zoom on June 28 from 7-8 p.m. Registration is free. A Beginning Experience Weekend for those suffering the loss of a spouse through death, divorce or separation will be hosted by the Diocesan Beginning Experience Team at Camp Kirchenwald Nov. 12-14, 2021. The ecumenical Beginning Experience weekends are an approved program of the Church. Hundreds of persons have been helped to move towards successful, productive, happy lives by attending one of these weekends. The weekend is led by persons who have lost a spouse through death or divorce and are trained in facilitating a weekend. Each Beginning Experience Team is certified by the International Beginning Experience Organization. Beginning Experience is under the auspices of the Diocesan Office of Catholic Life and Evangelization. It is your Church at work to provide help, healing and spiritual restoration. Events & Fundraisers

Our Lady of Mercy Parish in Roaring Creek will have its parish picnic, Aug. 6 and Aug. 7 from 3-7 p.m. Take-out food includes pierogies, pigeons, potato cakes, haluski, hot sausage and homemade baked goods. No pre-orders. Limited seating. Picnic will also include a 50/50, theme baskets and raffles.

Mother Cabrini Parish in Shamokin will hold a picnic food sale in the church hall on Saturday, July 17 from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Delicious homemade pierogi, pigeons, hamburgers, halushki and potato cakes will be on sale. Adult slushies will also be available (food and slushies are take-out only). On Saturday, July 24, Cabrini’s famous “Prizes Galore/Basket Raffles” will take place in the parish hall from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., with lots of prizes. In addition, a 50/50, September Lotto Calendars and other raffles will be available.

Mary, Gate of Heaven Parish in Myerstown will hold the MGH Summerfest festival June 24-26. Come enjoy all the great festival foods and games, and entertainment you’ve missed for the last two years. Midway games, basket raffles, food court. Festival hours are 5-10:30 p.m. Bands play from 7-10 p.m., featuring Veritgo Vibe on Thursday, Firestorm on Friday and Ricky and the Rockets on Saturday. Book sale daily from noon-10 p.m. There will not be indoor seating this year, in an effort to continue reducing the spread of COVID. Mary Mother of the Church Parish in Mount Joy will have a “Christmas in July Bazaar,” July 17 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Event includes a chicken dinner sale for $10 per dinner, “Stuff the Bus” school supplies collection, and a food pantry collection to benefit school lunch and senior citizen. Donate three items and receive three raffle basket tickets. Event will also include crafters and vendors and a children’s play area. Event is rain or shine.

St. Rose of Lima Parish in York seeks a full-time Business Manager. This person will be responsible for assisting the pastor in the overall administration of the parish concerning all matters pertaining to personnel, finance, buildings, and grounds. The responsibilities also include preparing and making bank deposits, completing employee time reports and providing employee benefits information, reviewing monthly General Ledger History Listing and financial statements, supervising all parish projects, and working with the pastor in parish budget preparation and other related tasks as assigned. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with solid keyboard skills, an in-depth understanding of business, bookkeeping, accounting principles, and strong managerial skills. The position requires excellent organizational skills and considerable problem-solving ability. A professional demeanor is essential in interacting with and communicating with persons at many levels: the pastor, parishioners, the Finance Council, other office personnel, and Diocesan Office personnel.  An understanding of payroll and benefits is required. Proficiency in Microsoft applications, especially Word, Outlook, Excel, and related software, is also required. The position may include some physicality, the ability to move among buildings, and bending, climbing stairs, and lifting (at least 50 lbs.). Good Shepherd Parish, Camp Hill, is seeking a part-time Religious Education Program Coordinator. The Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the direction of the parish’s K–8 Religious Education Program including its students, catechists, aides, and volunteers. Undefeated Courage is seeking nurses to staff its mobile ultrasound unit. Shifts available Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., FTE: PRN with no maximum hours. Hourly rate: $22.
