The Sisters of Saints Cyril and Methodius will have a special Memorial Mass for the SSCM Sisters who died during the pandemic. The Mass will be celebrated July 10 at 2 p.m. in the Basilica of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Danville by Bishop William Waltersheid, Auxiliary Bishop of Pittsburgh. A 30th anniversary Mass for Sister Mary Catherine Rose Giacobbe, the first hermit Sister in the Diocese, will be celebrated Aug. 14 at 9 a.m. at St. Lawrence Chapel in Harrisburg. Bishop Ronald Gainer will be celebrant for the Pontifical High Mass, and Sister will renew her vows. The Diocesan Committee on Scouting will offer a Girl Scout patch workshop on July 31 at St. Joan of Arc Parish in Hershey from 2-4:30 p.m., with Mass at 5:00. Girl Scouts are invited to an afternoon of outdoor activities to learn about the life of St. Joan of Arc, participate in a scavenger hunt and complete a service project for veterans (please bring a new pair of men’s white socks). The Diocesan Office of Ministry with People with Disabilities is hosting a no-cost virtual workshop, Navigating the World of the Family with Special Needs, on Saturday August 28 from 10 a.m.-noon, via Zoom. This educational workshop is intended to help parents and caregivers address the question, “What is the key to special needs planning?” Topics include financial/estate planning, special needs trusts, guardianship, wills and letter of intent. Volunteers needed for the Diocesan Summer Camp for Adults with Developmental Disabilities, Aug. 15-20, 2021, at Camp Kirchenwald in Lebanon County. The camp serves approximately 30 adults campers, with activities including swimming, hiking, fishing, canoeing, arts and crafts, and overnight stays in cabins. Adult females who are able to stay overnight are particularly needed this year. All volunteers are required to complete the Diocesan Clearance process and to provide proof of full vaccination from the COVID-19 virus (vaccination waivers may be granted). Attendance at a brief training session prior to helping at camp is also required. There is no cost to volunteers; all meals, events, campground activities, etc. are included. A Beginning Experience Weekend for those suffering the loss of a spouse through death, divorce or separation will be hosted by the Diocesan Beginning Experience Team at Camp Kirchenwald Nov. 12-14, 2021. The ecumenical Beginning Experience weekends are an approved program of the Church. Hundreds of persons have been helped to move towards successful, productive, happy lives by attending one of these weekends. The weekend is led by persons who have lost a spouse through death or divorce and are trained in facilitating a weekend. Each Beginning Experience Team is certified by the International Beginning Experience Organization. Beginning Experience is under the auspices of the Diocesan Office of Catholic Life and Evangelization. It is your Church at work to provide help, healing and spiritual restoration. Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Conewago will host a “Carry-Out” Picnic, July 17 at the Picnic Woods on Centennial Road in Hanover. Mary Mother of the Church Parish in Mount Joy will have a “Christmas in July Bazaar,” July 17 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Event includes a chicken dinner sale for $10 per dinner, “Stuff the Bus” school supplies collection, and a food pantry collection to benefit school lunch and senior citizen. Crusader girls’ fall softball registration is now open, assembling teams for 10U, 12U, and 14U for the fall 2021 season. All home games are played at St. Leo the Great in Rohrerstown for the lower levels and Lancaster Catholic’s JV Field for 14U.
