The Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) Dauphin County and Cumberland County Divisions will host a memorial Mass to honor the 13 Irish Canal Workers who died working on the Pennsylvania Canal in 1828. The Mass will be celebrated at their grave site in the Old Irish Cemetery at the corner of Race and Pine streets in Liverpool, August 16 at 12:30 p.m., celebrated by Father Richard McAlister. After Mass, there will be a light lunch and fellowship at the pavilion near the gravesite. We will have hot dogs, chips and drinks; please bring a covered dish or snacks if you are able. The AOH will have pop-up canopies in case of weather issues, and attendees may bring lawn chairs. A “Tear Drops Liturgy” for those whose loved ones have fallen away from the Church will take place at St. Katharine Drexel Church in Mechanicsburg, August 24 at 2 p.m. We all have loved ones who no longer practice the faith and have left the Church. During the Tear Drops Liturgy, participants will gather and pray together in petition that those we love come back to Jesus and His Holy Catholic Church.

The 39th annual pilgrimage in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mother will take place August 7 at the National Shrine Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes in Emmitsburg, Md. Step away from the busyness of life for this Day of Prayer for World Peace through Conversion. This annual pilgrimage provides a time and a place of encounter with our Blessed Mother Mary and our Lord Jesus Christ. Invite your pastor to lead a small pilgrim group. Arrive at the Shrine from 9-10 a.m. and spend the morning hours in prayer on your own or with your small group. A series of regional human trafficking awareness events will take place throughout the Diocese this summer in response to Bishop Senior’s Pastoral Letter, Setting Captives Free. Learn what human trafficking is, what it looks like, and how to respond to observing a possible trafficking situation. Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Cornwall will host Chevalier Cyril John for an Intercessory Prayer Revival, September 15-17 at 6:30 p.m. each evening. Cyril John’s ministry is to raise up intercessors. Pope Francis bestowed the title of “Chevalier” (Knight of the Order of St. Gregory the Great) on John in 2021. His presentations at Sacred Heart will focus on the call and urgency of intercessions (Sept. 15), the power of intercession to renew gifts and charisms of the Holy Spirit (Sept. 16), and four roles of the intercessor (Sept. 17). “Moments of Mary” study series, “Mary Through the Eyes of the Mystics,” begins Saturday, September 13 from 10 a.m.-noon in Room 310 of the former St. Joan of Arc school building, Hershey. The St. Martin de Porres Catholic Worker in Harrisburg will present “An Introduction to Legal Encampments: A Conversation with Leaders of Peace Village,” Saturday, August 16 at 4 p.m. at Market Square Presbyterian Church. The event will feature a panel discussion with Peace Village, the first legal encampment in Rochester, N.Y. The discussion will be moderated by James Murphy, community member at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Worker and a former member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Worker in Rochester, New York. Knights of Columbus Council #13100 of St. Katharine Drexel Parish in Mechanicsburg will have their fifth annual Car Show, Saturday, August 16, from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on the parish grounds. St. Leo the Great Parish in Rohrerstown will host the Archdiocesan and Cathedral choirs of the Cathedral-Basilica of Saints Peter & Paul of Philadelphia for a concert of sacred music, Friday, August 1 at 7 p.m. This accomplished choir is made up of professional singers and choristers from across the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, under the direction of Charlene Angelini. The concert, titled “Pilgrims of Hope,” will feature music by Thomas Tallis, Jessica French, Caroline Shaw, and more. This concert is a fundraiser for the choir as they prepare to make a pilgrimage to Mexico City this fall. While there, they will participate in singing Frank La Rocca’s “Mass of the Americas” at Mass with Archbishop Cordileone at the shrine to Our Lady of Guadalupe on Tepeyac Hill. This event is part of Project Guadalupe 2031, in preparation for the 500th anniversary of the Guadalupe apparition. The August 1 concert is free, with a free-will offering taken to support the choir’s pilgrimage (suggested donation: $25 per person).
Our Mother of Perpetual Help in Ephrata is adding an additional first grade classroom for the 2025-26 school year. OMPH will now offer two preschool, two kindergarten, and two first grade classrooms along with grades 2-8. Seats are available in the kindergarten and new first grade classroom, but preschool seating is limited. Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in McSherrystown is looking for a Part Time Parish/Church Housekeeper. Applicants would be responsible for cleaning and maintaining the parish rectory as well as the church. The position requires varying degrees of physical exertion, to include lifting (at least 50 lbs.), stretching, bending, climbing stairs and operating cleaning equipment. They would need organizational skills, a working knowledge of home safety procedures, and the ability to take instructions, as well as the ability to work without supervision.
