The annual Diocesan Respect Life Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Ronald Gainer on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at 4 p.m. at Holy Spirit Church, Palmyra. This Mass is celebrated every year to commemorate the lives lost to abortion since 1973 and to pray for a culture of life in our nation from conception to natural death. All are invited to the annual Black Catholic History Mass for the Diocese of Harrisburg. The Mass is Sunday, February 5 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Church in York. Bishop Jerome Feudjio, Bishop of the Diocese of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands, will be the celebrant and homilist. This Mass is an annual celebration of Black Catholic history, culture and leaders, and also commemorates the National Day of Prayer for African American and African families. A social will follow the Mass.
Join the Sisters of Saints Cyril and Methodius for Eucharistic Adoration – 40 Hours on Tuesday, February 7. Eucharistic Adoration will begin at the Basilica of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Danville at 9 a.m. You are welcome to visit the Blessed Sacrament throughout the day. The closing of 40 Hours will begin at 5 p.m. and will include Evening Prayer, a Reflection and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament in the Basilica. All are welcome to the evening service, or to spend quiet time in prayer during the day.

Spots are still open for the Diocesan pilgrimage to World Youth Day 2023 in Lisbon, Portugal. The Diocese of Harrisburg will host its annual Men’s Conference, Saturday, March 18, at the Diocesan Center in Harrisburg. Marcel LeJeune, President and Founder of Catholic Missionary Disciples will offer the keynote address. Breakout session presenters include Marcel LeJeune, Bishop Ronald Gainer, Father Ryan Fischer, Deacon Armando Torres, and Deacon Virgilio Centenera. St. John the Baptist in New Freedom is hosting a 12-week Surviving Divorce program which brings hope and healing to those who have experienced a broken marriage. The program begins February 1 at 6:45 p.m. and will be in a virtual program via Zoom. It includes 12 video presentations featuring a psychologist, priests and personal testimonies from Catholic men and women. Topics covered include shock and grief, anger and forgiveness, money issues, dealing with children and a former spouse, and annulment and remarriage. The program is based on the teachings of the Church and is open to anyone who needs comfort, counsel, and clarity after separation or divorce. There is no charge for the program. A Beginning Experience Weekend for those suffering the loss of a spouse through death, divorce or separation will take place at Camp Kirchenwald in Lebanon, May 5-7. The ecumenical weekends are an approved program in the Diocese of Harrisburg. Hundreds of persons have been helped to move towards successful, productive, happy lives by attending one of these weekends. The weekend is led by persons who have lost a spouse through death or divorce and are trained in facilitating a weekend. The Harrisburg Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (HDCCW) invites girls in grades 9-12 in the Diocese of Harrisburg to enter an art contest. The Mental Health Ministry at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Mechanicsburg is offering two types of spiritual support groups: a group for individuals who are experiencing mental illness, and a group for family members and friends of those experiencing mental illness. Meetings are now being held on the second and fourth Wednesday evenings of each month. We will gather in the Bayley Conference Room for open discussion, and then move to separate locations for the Spiritual Support Group meetings. St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Mechanicsburg will host its annual Solidarity Day with the March for Life on Friday, January 20. This will be a full day of prayerful support for those participating in the March for Life in Washington, D.C. The day will begin with Mass at 9 a.m., followed by a light breakfast. A Respect Life movie will be shown and a light lunch will also be provided. At noon, participants will be able to view the March for Life and speeches live on EWTN. At 1 p.m. the group will move to the Divine Mercy Chapel for the recitation of the Rosary and Respect Life prayers. Holy Spirit Parish’s Right to Life Committee and Knights of Columbus Council 10502 will participate in a local Right to Life March to coincide with the National March for Life in Washington, D.C., on Friday, January 20. The local event will take place at Holy Spirit Church in Palmyra. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., with a livestream of the National March for Life Rally and pro-life speakers at noon. A “Stand for Life Gathering” to witness to the sanctity of life in a prayerful and public demonstration will take place Friday, January 20 from noon-1 p.m. at 8th and Cumberland Streets in Lebanon. The event is taking place in solidarity with those at the March for Life in Washington, D.C., that day. Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church will be open for prayer during the gathering. This will be a peaceful and prayerful public display by citizens of all faiths dedicated to protecting the lives of preborn children and the spiritual health of their mothers. St. Rose of Lima Parish in York is seeking a Part-Time Director of Religious Education. The Director of Religious Education (DRE) is responsible for administering the parish K-8 Religious Education program and other parish catechetical programs. This position requires a mature and committed individual with excellent communication (oral and written), organizational, administrative, managerial and interpersonal skills. The person must be a Catholic in good standing and have a working knowledge of Church teaching, Catholic sacramental theology and practices of the Church and Diocese. The number of hours per week is negotiable. The DRE should have a Bachelor’s or a Master’s degree in Theology, Catechetics, Religious Education, or a related field. The individual should have a minimum of three years’ experience as a parish catechist prior to being hired as a parish DRE. Moreover, having the basic Catechetical Certificate or be in the process of attaining the Advanced Catechetical Certificate is an added advantage.
