Members of the Bishop McDevitt High School boys’ swimming team enjoyed a luncheon with Bishop Ronald Gainer on June 10, in celebration of the team’s PIAA 2A Boys’ State Championship in March.

By all accounts, the 2021 PIAA Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg University was one for the books. The May 28-29 finals marked a triumphant return from last year’s COVID-cancelled events, condensed preliminaries and finals into a one-day schedule for each classification, and was, weather-wise, the coolest championship weekend on record with rainy, damp days in the 50s.

Bishop McDevitt Captures Its First District 3 Softball Title

All season, senior Olivia Murphy has paced the Crusaders’ softball team with her arm and bat. In the District 3 Class 4A final played at Lyons Field near Kutztown on a stormy June 4 night, the story was the same and the result too, as Bishop McDevitt bested the Hamburg Hawks, 5-0, to win district gold.

Trinity Runs into Good Stuff in District 3 Baseball Final

If you are going to win a District 3A baseball championship, you are going to have to beat Lancaster Catholic and Oley Valley to hoist a trophy. The Trinity Shamrocks accomplished the former, but against the latter they came up short, 5-1, in the district final played under the lights at Fredericksburg’s Earl Wenger Memorial Field on June 1.

Bishop McDevitt’s 400-yard relay swimmers were cool and calm when they jumped into the pool for their final swim in the PIAA 2A Boys’ State Championships. A very real shot at team gold was on the line, and the 400-relay team of Patrick Hemingway, John Haskins, Lucas Hancock and Isaac Hancock knew what they had to do to secure it.
