Bishop Senior Throws Senators’ First Pitch as Part of Anniversary Celebration

The 100-degree temperature on FNB field on Harrisburg’s City Island wasn’t the only thing throwing heat on a steamy June 21.

Stepping to the mound in a red Senators’ ballcap, Bishop Timothy Senior threw the ceremonial first pitch as part of a celebration to mark the first anniversary of his installation as the Twelfth Bishop of Harrisburg.

The bishop spent time honing his pitching skills before stepping onto the diamond, showing good form in his first-ever ceremonial pitch. Though the pitch fell short of home plate, parishioners and students among the more than 5,500 in attendance cheered the bishop on from the stands.

The night’s first-pitch festivities were part of the Senators’ “Faith Night” promotion, an evening of community and celebration. A portion of each ticket purchased by parishioners was donated in support of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Harrisburg.

The evening concluded with a fireworks display, after the Senators shut out the Hartford Yard Goats, 3-0.
