On an evening when drenching rain was earnestly dousing York City, several dozen York College students came to the warm confines of the campus’ quaint, century-old Brougher Chapel, where Bishop Timothy Senior celebrated Holy Mass and attended a social dinner afterwards. More than two dozen students and campus supporters of the Newman Club ministry attended, including Father Norbert Suresh, chaplain, Deacon Stephen Pichler, and Ileana Feistritzer, Associate Catholic Campus Minister.
In his homily, Bishop Senior told the students, “Our Lord is always gazing down upon us, always,” he said. “If we choose doom and gloom and not to love him, he calls us back to himself no matter what because he loves us first…. We must take on his likeness to put aside what we need for our good but focus on the greater good which is what is best for others. Always seek good, and that is not easy or is it clear, but he always is calling us…. Choosing life is choosing him and we need to make decisions within the context of our relationship with God.”
The York College Catholic Newman Club offers students a place of worship, service, study, prayer, leadership and the promotion of justice and peace. Weekly Mass, confession and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament take place in Brougher Chapel throughout the academic year.
