Senators Scott Martin (R-13) and Joe Picozzi (R-5) honored Catholic Schools Week in Pennsylvania last week with remarks on the Senate Floor and a special guest chaplain.
Martin and Picozzi sponsored a resolution honoring Catholic Schools Week from January 26 through February 1 in recognition of the approximately 100,000 students enrolled in Catholic schools throughout Pennsylvania.
Martin and Picozzi are both products of Catholic schools, with Martin graduating from Lancaster Catholic High School in Lancaster and Picozzi graduating from Holy Ghost Preparatory School in Bensalem.
“As a proud alum of Lancaster Catholic, I was fortunate to get a quality education in a welcoming environment that instilled strong values and character,” Martin said.
“Attending Lancaster Catholic was a tremendous experience that helped prepare me for the challenges I’ve encountered throughout my adult life, and that is why I am proud to sponsor a resolution designating this observance with Senator Picozzi.”
“Catholic schools are the bedrock of our community in Northeast Philly. In my home, we ask, ‘What parish are you from? Where did you go to grade school?’” Picozzi said. “We proudly boast 15 Catholic schools in the 5th Senatorial District. It is an honor to join a fellow Catholic school alumnus, Senator Scott Martin, in sponsoring a resolution today designating January 26th through February 1st, 2025, as Catholic Schools Week in the Commonwealth.”
In recognition of Catholic Schools Week, the Senate also welcomed as guest chaplain Bishop Timothy Senior, who was appointed Bishop of Harrisburg by Pope Francis in 2023.
