“You get to see the vitality of a parish when you come as a bishop for a weekend Mass, and vitality is easily seen here at Holy Name of Jesus Parish under the leadership of Father Forrey on this, the Sixth Sunday of Easter,” Bishop Timothy Senior began his homily during Holy Mass on May 10, Mother’s Day.
Holy Name of Jesus Parish, which encompasses the northern suburbs of Harrisburg, was established in 1960 by Bishop George Leech. Though it is one of the younger parishes of the diocese, it ranks as one of its largest in total number of Catholic families. The church’s cornerstone was laid on June 3, 1961, by Bishop Leech and the school was opened in September that year. In 2010, a new church was built on existing church property and was dedicated by Bishop Joseph McFadden, the tenth bishop of Harrisburg.
“We have been created to be united with God,” Bishop Senior said. “Jesus said, ‘You are not orphans though I am about to leave you; I will be your advocate and be with you with the Holy Spirit.’ The Holy Spirit dwells in us all, all the time.”
“We live in a world with evil all around us,” bishop noted, “so we want to choose virtue and goodness.”
