For five straight years, the Crusaders of Bishop McDevitt have won the District 3 boys’ Class 2A swimming championship at Cumberland Valley’s Natatorium. With a team score of 229, the Crusaders grabbed the gold a little differently this year, winning only the 200-yard Freestyle Relay (Rocco Solimeo, Luke Madden, Zach Hancock and Lucas Hancock). Still, the team placed in the top-six spots more than any other competitor, which is the path to scoring points to win team gold.
The Trinity boys won the 200-yard Medley Relay and the 400-yard Freestyle (James Gaudion, Ryan Lee, Nick Shelly and Adam Dopkowski). Trinity’s Ryan Lee placed second in the 200-yard Individual Medley and the 100-yard Breaststroke. Trinity’s Nick Shelly won silver in the 100-yard Backstroke, as did McDevitt’s Lucas Hancock in the 50-yard Freestyle sprint.
In the girls’ championship, Trinity’s Kari Powell won the 100-yard Breaststroke, and Bishop McDevitt placed second in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay (Emma Duffy, Ellie Brenner, Alice Kielty and Maya Madden).
The swimmers are now set to compete at the PIAA State Championships at Bucknell March 16-19.
