Before a gathering of community members, patrons and staff, Bishop Ronald Gainer blessed the new Wiedeman Funeral Home in Steelton on Oct. 14. The spacious and modern facility opened in June of last year, a milestone in the rich history of Wiedeman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc.
A family-owned business, Wiedeman’s devotedly and professionally cared for the burial of former Harrisburg bishops, including Bishop Nicholas C. Dattilo and Bishop Joseph McFadden.
The new facility brings together the funeral home’s Steelton location, which was founded in 1937 by Joseph Wiedeman, and the Harrisburg location founded in 1865 by Jacob Fackler. Members of the Fackler and Wiedeman families over the years have served generations of families in their times of grief.
Dozens of community members attended the blessing and ribbon-cutting ceremony at 357 South Harrisburg Street. The evening included a history of the funeral home’s foundations, guest speakers offering congratulations on the project, and the presentation of a congratulatory citation from Dauphin County Commissioners.
